Quick & Easy Bento Fillers

I love to cook, but I do not love spending a lot of time packing lunch. The quicker and easier, the better. Fortunately, there are many delicious and healthy options that are perfect bento fillers. Many of these foods require little or no preparation. I prefer to use natural/organic convenience foods whenever possible.

From the Freezer: (Cook and cool before packing.)
  • edamame (delicious mixed with sesame oil and sea salt)
  • Chinese dumplings
  • spanakopita
  • pierogies
  • tater tots
  • chicken nuggets
  • chicken wings
  • vegetables
  • mini waffles
  • meatballs
  • potato pancakes
  • shrimp
  • wontons
  • taquitos
  • mini bagel pizzas
From a Can or Jar:
  • beans
  • fruit
  • mushrooms
  • artichoke hearts
  • stuffed grape leaves
  • olives
  • pickles
  • peppers
  • sardines
  • oysters
  • kippers
  • giardiniera
  • baby corn
  • sweet potatoes
  • kimchi
From the Fridge:
  • fruit
  • veggies
  • hard-boiled egg
  • deli meat
  • leftovers
In a Pinch: Stop by a good supermarket and check out the salad bar or olive bar. There are lots of bite-sized goodies that can be arranged in a bento box in a matter of minutes.
